This site is here to honor the members who have served their
country........In 2001 STAR Touring and Riding formed STAR VETS. As one of
the fastest growing segments of the organization, STAR VETS honors and
commemorates the sacrifices of the men and women who have served or are
currently serving their country. STAR Vets #441 In Action STAR Vets are very active with issues that concern all Veterans. Each year, the Chapter sends a contingent to ride in various Veteran related rides such as the God Bless America Ride, The Purple Heart Ride and STAR B Q functions. The God Bless America Ride is a Police Escorted Ride from Greencastle, Pennsylvania to the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All proceeds go to help Vets staying at the hospital to pay for various personal items that are not covered by the hospital. Many of the Vets are low income so this type of relief is very welcome by the patients. Each year this ride raises tens of thousands of dollars for the Vets. The Purple Heart Ride is also police escorted from Sykesville, Maryland to either Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC or the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The Blue Knights of Maryland sponsor this ride to raise money for the families of injured Sailors, Soldiers, and Marines injured in battle and are convalescing in the Washington, DC area. Since most servicemen are not able to financially support the temporary housing and restaurant meals that out of town family members must pay to stay with them, this ride is part of a fund raising drive including corporate donations as well as ride entrance fees to help the families defray the cost of being near their loved one. Each year, even in a bad economy, donations increase with over $50,000 be donated in 2009. |

| In August 2009, Chapter #441 hosted the Mid-Atlantic STAR B Q in Gettysburg, PA. The final even of the weekend was a STAR Vet sponsored breakfast at the Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department. During the breakfast, the parents of Corporal Brandon Hardy were presented with an Honor and Remember flag in remembrance of their son who was killed in Iraq in 2006. Corporal Hardy's parents also sponsor a Motorcycle Ride in honor of their son with all funds designated to $1000 scholarships which are given to new military recruits prior to entering boot camp. this money helps the new recruit defray the costs of their plane ticket home after boot camp, as well as other items that are subtracted from their first paycheck. In 2010, Chapter #441 sent a STAR Vet contingent to take part in the ride. |
